I made it through my first year of celebrating my children birthday. If you’ve read my previous post Fall Is In the Air, you know that my babies were born 7 days apart. My oldest just turned 12 years old and my youngest just turned 1. This has been the busiest month for me. I planned for my son’s first birthday and my daughter’s celebration simultaneously. The good thing is their age difference is so great, that they are both celebrating in two completely different ways.
On Sunday, September 20, for my son, we decided to have a backyard BBQ and we were blessed that the weather permitted. It was a family gathering with delicious food and my daughter lead several basic games for the older kids to play. Since we love cooking, my husband I drafted a pretty hefty menu for a kid’s party which included: grilled jerk chicken, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, spaghetti, and baked macaroni & cheese. Topped off with ice cream and cake.
My son was so drained that day. He seemed to get extremely active towards bedtime after opening his gifts. He was so fond of all his toys he didn’t want to go to bed. I must admit I had a blast planning and hosting the party. It is always such a pleasure to see family and friends enjoying themselves. We received so many compliments on the food. It is great cooking with the hubby and it was even more special since it was our son’s 1st birthday.
Before we could get the house back in order and all the decoration down, Sunday, September 27th rolled around and we were blowing up pink balloons instead of blue. My daughter wanted simple and chic. A day out with a friend to see a movie back home with pizza and cheesecake. She dropped a bomb on me a few days before and said she wanted blue hair. I’m usually ultra-conservative, but I figured it would be fun so I temporarily colored her hair blue with eye-shadow.
Blue hair and all we enjoyed the movie “The Visit” and grabbed pizza afterward. She was so excited and appreciative for all her gifts. At the end of the night, I was exhausted. It helps that I’m a birthday-aholic because I loved every moment of it.
Well, I survived my first year of celebrating two birthday within 7 days and it was amazing.
