Sippee Cups Recalled Due to Risk of Mold

Author:

Sippee Cups are making the little one sick. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, more than 3 million spill-proof “Tommee Tippee Sippee” cups are being recalled as of today 5/27/16.  Nearly 70 children became ill after  drinking from  the valves that contained mold. The children experienced diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Sippee cups, contact the manufacturer Mayborn to receive a free replacement cup by going online at www.tommeetippee.us and clicking on the recall button, or by calling toll-free at 877-248-6922 anytime during the week and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Saturday.

The recall involves five types of cups all with a removable, one-piece white valve: First Sips Transition cup, Trainer Sippee cup, Sippee cup (including Cute Quips), Sportee bottle and Insulated Swiggle/Sippee tumblers. The mold develops in the removable white valve from remaining moist and infrequently being cleaned.

I visited the company’s Facebook page and they are urging parent’s to stop using the cups that have the white valves and are shown in the picture below:

Sippee Cups RECall message to parents:

Child health and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We know that some people are continuing to experience difficulty in cleaning the white, one-piece valve in some of our sippy cups. For this, we sincerely apologise.

In conjunction with both the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, we are voluntarily recalling the Tommee Tippee Sippee Cups which contain the white, one-piece valve. The white valve is found in some of our First Sips Transition Cup, Trainer Sippee Cup, Sportee Bottle, Insulated Swiggle / Sipper Tumbler, and Sippee Cup (including Cute Quips), and the sippy cup that was part of the Closer to Nature Starter Kits.

Mold can develop on the removable, one-piece, opaque valve inside the cups when it remains wet/moist and is infrequently cleaned. Consumers should stop using the cup with this valve and visit http://www.tommeetippee.us/white-valve for further information and to arrange to receive a free replacement cup.

If your valve is not white and identical to the one shown here then your cup is not affected by this recall. This recall does not affect any of our other cups or feeding products.

Check your cups and be safe.
