If you follow me on my other Instagram at A Break 4 Health, you know that I am following the Ketogenic diet. I started the keto diet in 2017, unfortunately I had to stop after 5 months due to health reasons unrelated to the diet. I did lose a nice amount of weight, but my first go at the diet was interrupt abruptly.

I started back up this year on May 22, 2019. My health has been all over the place. I have undergone three surgeries and I am now fighting a relapse with my multiple sclerosis. With all of this going on, now is the best time to fully focus on my health. I have been tracking what I eat because I still don’t have the ability to work-out. With my eating alone the elimination of carbs and sugar, apparently I have lost 19 pounds since starting back. YAY me! Like I said the keto diet was good for me the first time and I know it will be great

Why Use A Simple Keto Shopping Grocery List

The ketogenic diet is a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet that was originally used in medicine to treat children who had epileptic seizures. When done properly the body starts to burn fat for energy rather than carbohydrates. Your body goes into a state of ketosis. When your body falls below a certain amount of carbs on the keto diet (between 20-50 grams) your body will go into a state of ketosis and instead of burning carbs it will instead burn fat and make a substance called ketones which can be used for fuel.

I've been following a low carb, keto diet for awhile. When done properly the body starts to burn fat for energy rather than carbohydrates. Here is an intro to the way of eating and a simple keto grocery shopping list to help you get started.

Starting off on keto you will need to figure out your macros. I don’t get into macro counting, maybe one day I will, but for now I just keep it simple and stay below 20 grams of carbs. You will want to make sure you are tracking your carbs, weight and measurements. I use the MyFitnessPal to track my progress. I have to be honest, I’ve been horrible about taking photos of myself and taking my measurements. DON’T be like me. Take lots of pictures. Your will want to look back on this journet. The weight comes off so quickly, you won’t have time to go back in a week and get a good picture. STOP and take your before pictures NOW!

When starting out you may not know what to eat, or what to shop for, but I promise you that if you keep it simple, your new way of eating will be simple. The list I am providing you is simple. I have broken it down it to 3 sections, protein, vegetables and fat.

I eat a meat (protein) vegetable and then I add some fat all while ensuring I remain under my 20 net carbs. If you are going to calculate your macros put everything into your calculator. If you need a breakdown and understanding of maros, do your research! I did mine and I have been without track, but I will soon start tracking so don’t be like me, lol.
