Ballet is a romantic sport for the dreamy-eyed girl like myself. Spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers, Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker was a treat for my husband and I to attend after a busy weekend. We attended the 3 p.m show on Sunday, December 6th in Rosemont, IL. The theater was draped in holiday lights and festive cheer, the perfect setting for an evening at the ballet.
This made for a great afternoon out with the hubby. We left the kids behind and headed out for a date. I must say it was rather nice to get out on a Sunday afternoon and spend some time alone. The ballet is definitely a nice place to spend adult time. The audience is so in-tuned with the performance that the atmosphere is enough to refresh anyone’s spirit.
The Great Russian Nutcracker opens with Uncle Drosselmeyer bringing his magical toys to Mayor Stalhbaum’s Christmas Eve Party. Masha loves the gift she receives which is the Nutcracker toys. Her toy is soon broken. She falls asleep and begins to dream. This begins her adventure which will lead her magical Nutcracker prince into a fight between mice and soldiers. Act 2 sends them into an enchanted celebration filled with playful animals. The story is told through graceful dance and beautiful costumes. The children dancers are absolutely adorable. From my seating, I was able to capture some decent photos. The colors were vibrant and the music was a delight. The story is a bit different from the American version, but beautiful all the same.
